Guide Certificate: Introduction to the developmental characteristics and needs of children ages 6-12. It is intended to help in the understanding of this stage of development 6-12 for parents, caregivers, school staff, or anyone seeking general knowledge of Montessori developmental theory and education.

Assistant Certificate (Extension): Individuals who will work in Montessori environments 6-12 as assistants or aides. This part is intended to provide more specific skills and knowledge on how to interact in the classroom with the guide, children, and the prepared environment.

Orientation

• 60 hours 100% online. 33 hours online and 27 hours of independent work.

Online sessions program:

• Introduction to Montessori pedagogy. Self-construction and the theory of human development. The needs and tendencies for self-development. The characteristics of the Montessori approach and the prepared environment at each stage of development.
• The second stage of development. Cosmic Education. The environment prepared for 6-12. How the educational approach to children from 6 to 12 years old is implemented. Group work, debate and sharing of the readings done.
• The role of observation. Observation practice and uses of records for systematic observation.
• Big stories and key presentations. Types of activities in Geography, Biology and History. Explaining stories.
• Imagination and creativity. The areas of Art, Music and Language. The language-ready environment and key activities. Multilingualism in the language-ready environment.
• The role of the prepared adult. Managing freedom and responsibility. Adult work in the prepared environment 6-12.
• Other adults. Role of the assistant. Communication with parents. Helping children aged 6 to 12 at home and in other settings.
• Child's work. Help with responsibility. The work diary and weekly meetings with the guide.
• The areas of Mathematics and Geometry, materials and prepared environment. Taking care of the Montessori prepared environment.

Activities in independent work: asynchronous online sessions

• Recordings with comprehension tasks: Life and work of Dr. Montessori. Written summary. Dr. Montessori in Barcelona. The areas of Geography, Biology and History. Inclusion in a Montessori environment. Montessori environments.
• Preparation of a summary album of the lessons received with the help of scripts.
• Readings with questionnaires by Dr. Montessori on human development and help in self-construction.
• Essays: Self-development and Montessori, Help for the stage from 6 to 12 years, Cosmic Education.
• Observational tasks: Introspection/simulation of observation records with a recording.

Supplement Assistant Title

Program of the face-to-face part:

• Detailed description of the prepared environment. How to handle and communicate appropriately in a prepared environment 6-12.
• Advice on how to approach children's work.
• Using observation as the main tool for help - Practical aspects of 'Going out's with children.
• Skills for binding and embellishing works.
• Simulations and role-playing on everyday situations in a 6-12 environment. Practical aids in the classroom.
• Relationships with other adults and teamwork.
• Skills for maintenance and care of the environment.

Independent work:

• View recordings: Assessment, Numbering Aids and The Four Basic Operations and Reading and Writing Aids.
• Completion of the summary work of the face-to-face part.
