It is a 60-hour classroom course and consists of a minimum of 9 hours of observation. The course is aimed at training for teacher assistants in a Montessori classroom (6 to 12 years). The program of the course is also specially designed so that professionals and parents can deepen in the pedagogical principles of Maria Montessori and in the characteristics of her proposal for boys and girls of Elementary Education.

Especially to assistants and administrative staff of Montessori schools, teachers, psychologists, pedagogues, students and families interested in learning more about Montessori pedagogy for boys and girls from 6 to 12 years old.

  • Train adults to develop their work as assistants of Montessori teachers in a classroom (6 to 12 years).
  • Raise the psychological and pedagogical bases to promote full development in Elementary Education.
  • Know the characteristics of the development stages of the human being and their characteristics for self-development.
  • Analyse the role of adults in child development (parents, guides, assistants ...).
  • Introduce yourself in the function and application of human needs and tendencies in development.
  • Analyse the independence procedure of the child and the techniques to accompany in its development.
  • Analyse the binomial freedom and discipline and techniques to help its development.
  • Introduce the different areas of the school curriculum and its interdisciplinary approach.
  • Know the prepared environment and its importance.
  • Describe the main tasks of a workshop assistant.
  • Practice skills and techniques to help in the management of a Montessori classroom from 6 to 12 years old.
  • Practice techniques for observation.
  • Practice skills and techniques of music, art, making and preparation of didactic materials.
  • Present activities to promote social cohesion of the group.

Course aimed at training the student to develop their work as an assistant in a Montessori classroom for Elementary Education (6-12 years old). The theoretical bases, skills and techniques to help in a Montessori classroom for Elementary Education are provided. Several works are carried out and a minimum of 9 hours of observation in Montessori classrooms of Elementary Education.

During the 60 on-site hours, theoretical classes are combined with commented bibliographic readings and practical sessions.

In addition, 9-hour observations of children 6 to 12 years old need to be done, preferably in a Montessori classroom. These observations must be made before the end of the course.

Minimum attendance of 80% to classroom sessions. Active participation in the practices and review of three written works and observations.

At the end of the course, if all the work is done, two certificates are obtained:

  • AMI Classroom Assistants Certificate Elementary (6-12).
  • Certificate “Official AMI Montessori Assistant postgraduate Course (6-12)”, by Fundació Universitat de Girona: Innovació i Formació.

The course has the recognition of: Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), Montessori Palau International Research and Training Center (MIRTC), Asociación Montessori Española (AME) and Foundation of the University of Girona.
